Job Description
Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team! The position is in a department responsible for the piping design and development of all jet fuel, air, gas, and seawater systems on ships. These include Oxygen, Nitrogen, Firefighting and Magazine sprinkling systems as well as ballasting, and sea water cooling to diesel generators and air conditioning systems. Candidate engineers will be expected to develop procurement requirements for new components, conduct detailed analysis to support designs, including pipe stress and flow calculations, develop and review component and system manuals, develop detailed diagrams, and conduct troubleshooting and analysis to identify causes for problems and develop solutions that are then implemented.
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Basic Qualifications
5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Preferred Qualifications
?Familiarity with Siemens Nx and shipboard piping systems.
Knowledge of flow analysis and pipe stress analysis software is a plus.
