Industrial Engineer (Launch Hardware)
at SpaceX
Cape Canaveral, FL, United States
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER (LAUNCH HARDWARE)
Join the continuous improvement task force making aircraft-like launch operations a reality. You will execute critical efficiency gains to supply chain and fabrication processes that upgrade Falcon/Dragon processing facilities, launch pads, and recovery vessels. Create and apply strategies to turn a developing team into a well-oiled machine in the shop and field. Implement scrappy but effective solutions in logistics, inventory, machining, structural and pipe welding, instrumentation and controls, high-pressure fluids systems, precision assembly, and more.
As an industrial engineer in Launch Hardware, you are the engineer who owns strategies and processes development, attacking every problem with enthusiasm and removing hurdles. You are a self-starter, team player, have the hunger to venture quickly into unknown areas and make the system work. Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for inventive, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify systematic gaps in business processes across all ground fabrication/support functions
Analyze and improve processes in accordance with team improvement strategies
Create sustainable solutions that enable technician teams to operate independent of engineering
Standardize build documents and fabrication workflows to increase efficiency and approach zero defects in non-flight mass production
Identify and resolve supply chain and logistics challenges to increase on-time delivery and reduce cost
Relentlessly pursue elimination of waste
Collaborate closely with engineering and technician organizations to govern the way launch systems are planned, designed, and built
Collect demand and throughput data to calculate staffing needs and inform hiring decisions for fabrication units, machine shops, support functions, and other resources
Train users and leaders on system, process, and software developments
Develop automation that reduces business risk and increases efficiency
Write SQL queries and analyze data to identify trends and drive business decisions
Create reports, tools, and standardized metrics to measure operational efficiency, delivery, and quality
Support department continuous improvement projects such as new process rollouts and standardization
Perform structured root cause analysis of in-process failures and rework
Draw inputs from all teams across launch and synthesize into project cost, schedule and technical trades with a recommended course of action
Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
